Hi, I would really like to use DSL as the basis for my own live cd. I was hoping that I could get some info on remastering DSL. It would be going onto a 185mb minidisc. Thanks.

Hi !
I had the same idea ...

I love DSL, it saved me as my HD just burnt ...
But I'd like to add some big apps to the tiny penguin, like permanent FireBird (i can't download it anymore :( ), cdrecord, gcc and ... OpenOffice ! Of course on a 185 or 210 MB CD-R.

I know, it looks strange to mix very compact and very big stuff, but it's like pulling a truck wirh a bicycle : it's unbelivable !

The problem is, how to estimate the space occupied by these programs after install, and more important, after cloop-compression ?  ???
i'd like to know if it's possible _before_. Or maybe add some of my favorite MP3's to fill the CD.

So, what is the compression ratio for DSL ? How to estimate the size of each app in the compressed image ?

Thanks,
And keep tqking care of baby tux
