I PayPal'd a little money to DSL, out of courtesy and gratitude. And I will paypal some more.
Don't know whether or not it was Kosher, but I posted that I'd paypal if somebody would do a little matrix clone. Is it written anywhere that a screensaver is frivolous. I've recieved an insult, but I've also had numerous people be kind and generous enough to take some time to consider some of my posts, and definately take some time to write excellent replies. Posted a fair bit this week, not blinding computer programming stuff, but I've had some time on my hands.

I don't have a USB drive, but I'll purchase one soon. Bought a 64mb Lexar for my mother one Christmas, backs up her spreadsheets at work.

I understand that the $50 DSL drive is thin. I understand the efficacy of this specification, and I am sure it is superlative  quality. I paid 20 for my mothers. I'd pay 50% more for a non-thin plastic one if it had a cool DSL logo on it. Whatever floats your boat. But I won't pay 50.
Just an idea. Think about it. These things are becoming two a penny as we say in England. Wouldn't be rocket science (or trying to install xearth on DSL!,) to stamp a logo on a bit of plastic. Anybody got any far-east contacts. Spare a minute to think about this if you don't think it is frivolous. I am being quite serious. Every little helps. A shrude venture capitalist worth his salt would be a fool not to look at DSL.

Aiding them DSL guys to give up their full-time hours, to be able to perhaps do what they do best. They state that they desire that. That is the motivation of this posting.

I became self-employed when I was 15.
P.s. Do what you do best and you can't go wrong.

I apologize to all of you who are not 1st. language English.
When I do some BASIC Getting Started's and How To's, they will be as clear as day, and translated into PERFECT Chinese.

It is possible to get custom logo devices in USA without far east contacts.

For example, some companies will get baseball caps, mugs, and pens with their corporate logo attached.  I am sure that it is possible to get a pen drive with a simple DSL logo on the side.

However, such customization is not cheap unless you order a high volume of pendrives, so it might be feasible for, say 500 pen drives.

But if John only sells 24 of them per year this would not be feasible.

How much marketing does he do on EBay?  Those mini itx's would sell like hot cakes with an ebay store.

Put a smile on my face that somebody said one could get a custom logo without far east contacts.

I love mugs (vessel!) I've just become an uncle and I want to  find a tupperware I can stick his photo on. Throwing a cup of coffee over someone can be expressive too. I love baseball caps. Never be in a war zone without one. Cold is the primary enemy of survival. Do you know how much heat the body loses from the head. Shooting (photographs,) into the sun, the visor can be useful. Fold the visor into the hat, and it makes a wicked bag for swimming goggles (gas gas gas.) I collect pens. The pen is mightier than the sword (never had to plunge one into anybodys neck, but there's always a first time! Trust me, I'm only being candid and humourous people!

Often purchase pens off USA ebay.

With some investment, possible to obtain 1000 units or less, is interesting.
If there's anybody  whose prepared to undertake an ebay business (time, effort, work,) perhaps could shift a significant percentage. Come on you Yankee dollar brains. (Made me smile, one time I was hiking Betatakin ruins, hot day, this kind fellow addressed me as Limey, and offered me a piece of orange.)
5367 registered members, how many visitors?? How many people run DSL???

Thinking about it, my brain is England scale. The US is 52 times bigger.

I hope this posting is acceptable on this computing forum, you know, waxing about coffee & biros rather than C++.

Although you can pick up these things cheaper,
I DISCERN, personally I would purchase a, Integral Courier 128Mb USB 2.0, thirteen pounds & fifty pence, inc delivery, from, mouse2house.co.uk

Therefore I would pay 20 to 30 (or maybe 20 -25,) for a DSL logo.

Statistics.

       ___

I suppose I'd be down with pushing the boat out to 30 for DSL, but that's just me.

If this idea has validity, somebody should check out what you can get a 1000 of these gizmos for.

Before you start talking about items with DSL Logos, the logo has to be attractive.  I was scrolling down Distro Watch and DSL had by for the worst looking logo on the site.  Sorry about my constructive criticism, but the DSL Business Card Desktop logo is a major eyesore.

Spent half of today working on my version of a logo, still going with the BabyTux concept, this time incorporate the magnifying glass idea...

< Small >
< Bigger >

Thoughts?

Looks good to me.

Nice..

Can you do a reverse out with black letters on a white background?

Yeah, I thought of that after looking at others on the DistroWatch site, but the yellow lettering didn't contrast well...  will try maybe a dark orange or red...
Here ya go
< Bigger White >
< Smaller White >

(hmm, think the mag needs a bit of work... maybe a lighter blue... worked OK on the dark background, not so well on the white...)

Cool more DSL graphics!

Perhaps there should be a DSL graphics gallery or forum??

Cheers
rob
PS Can I throw in a coffee cup / CD cover design? :D

I really like the logo.
I'm very pleased, excellent that opinions differ.

P.s. I'm contacting a manufacturer or three, and sourcing a price for 500.

RoGuE_StreaK,

I love the logo!!!  I think its just what DSL needs.  Good job!

I think they should incorporate your logo into the DSL website and ditch the old one.

Here's two updated versions, was using pure vector before, these ones are rasterised as layers and then using transparencies/overlay, and some dropshadows.

Hey Rob (aka monkymind), maybe we should have a "DSL graphics session" one day...

I'll take the top one as a t-shirt and a coffee cup! :)

Hi Lee
how about we meet up in Brissy and maybe catch < The Fantastic Four > and a beer(s) :) while we are there??

Btw what program(s) are you using?? I'm mainly using Inkscape and occasionally The Gimp .....

Posted by RoGuE_StreaK on June 20 2005,09:17
Sounds good, I'll mail you to sort something out :D

Program-wise, I'm being not very gnu and using Illustrator, though I'm attempting to get GNU replacements figure out...  For raster etc., I use the GIMP (I exported the ai file as a psd, and opened with the GIMP), though I must admit I still use Paint Shop Pro for general image cropping, resizing, colour-correction etc., as it seems to produce the cleanest images of all the apps I've tried, Photo$hop included.

Oh, and shirts are still in the works!  (getting screens organised...)

Also, updated dark version (just used a circle of white behind it, 'cause I liked the light-blue glowiness...)

Posted by jesseakc on June 20 2005,15:43
Love it!  I like the blue part also.  By the way, are the backgrounds #000000 because they didn't match my completely black website very well...
Posted by RoGuE_StreaK on June 20 2005,23:29
Nah, it's a dark grey for my new theme (black was just too... black), think it's about #343232, will post (maybe) a black version later today, if I get around to it...
