I once decided that I was going to make a .mac like service though I had nothing to use as a base, or anything. I have now decided that I want it to be dot-dsl. Here are my ideas as follows, and I have the webspace to handle this.

1) Email
2) Bookmarks
3) Contacts / Address Book
4) Extensions ( Would allow you to back up your extensions)
5) Pictures
6) .....can you think of any more?

There would be a free account avaliable though there would also be an account with more capicity, for a small fee.

Maybe I sould make it dot-linux, where one could back up all of thier RPMs and DEBs; maybe?

I think for now I'll just stick to DSL. :D

Kay...
It's Apple vs. DSL community

hmmmmm...

No.....its not a fight. It would just be a service, like .mac, that would be provided to  the DSL community.

I can be shrewd at times. Allow me to evaluate.

What I mean is, Apple is a company, and has a lot (?) of money. Moreover .Mac is a subscription service. Apple has people dedicated to this service.
On the other hand we have the DSL community. We don't have a lot of money, and not many will provide all this bandwidth for free. That's assuming this service would be free, of course.

So..yea.

I have bandwidth to offer. There would be a free account, there would also be a "premium" account where the user would recieve more of the same stuff as the free account had.

Maybe .linux is a better idea, and then the DSL users would be able to use it as well as everyone else.

dot linux is maybe too ambitious. so many users, with so many different needs...often distros are slightly different and need little but important systems adjustment that may vary from distro to distro.
So, I think that a dot.dsl may be a good idea, but a dot. linux is a very big challenge. though, it is also said that "when things get tough...the toughs get going". good luck! :)

I will begin "in-depth" work on this in a few months, The .linux would not be as hard as you think. Anyways, I will do .dsl and then while working on that i'll also work on .linux which I am sure I could get bandwidth from other linux sites, Right now I am working on my MMPORG and < http://gimmeapenny.com >

Ekylypse, sounds like an interesting semi-commercial project.  Yet, I'd prefer it to be independent of DSL, because it is not really part of this project and may be confused with stuff we have in the works.

Maybe it would be a better idea to generically target the Linux community?

Okay John, thanks for your feedback, no problem.

:p

If you target the Whole linux comunity, you coud stand to make alot of money. Then you coud use that money to further develop DSL.

it would help if the people of the linux community could help me on this project :-P I posted on this community first because I love the friendly DSL Community. :-D
