Since you asked..I have been making bootable CD and DVD masters with most or all of the extensions added to a copy of the latest .iso of DSL. My efforts using bootable DVD's have been very successful on all my systems. Since I maintain the extension repository for DSL, and work at a duplication facility, it seemed logical to the team at DSL to allow me to handle requests for extensions. John has more than plenty on his plate already with the DSLStore. ( 5 different varieties, isolinux, syslinux, embedded , pendrives, CF cards. ) Also, it is the "50 MB Limit" of DSL that has made it so popular worldwide, and John wishes to preserve that notoriety at the DSL website. So, no "official" DSL discs above the 50MB limit from DSL.. period.. I keep current backups of the entire repository, including the testing area, updated weekly.. I have the equipment to duplicate, print, and verify every copy.. I was timing this news to correspond with the meeting of many of the DSL Team to LinuxWorld in San Francisco this August. ( guinea pig trials! ) But since you asked.. ( ..and many others , Thank You for your interest.. ) All proceeds beyond costs benefit DSL development. ( I already volunteer money, time, and disks.. ) I have not set any pricing in stone for disks or shipping. Perhaps a contribution/donation based schedule similar to this? $10 donation = cd + extensions ( Up to 700 MB - s&h in U.S. included ) $12 donation = dvd + extensions ( The Works (currently +1.2Gb) - s&h in U.S. included ) $15 donation = both + extensions ( Best Value - s&h in U.S. included ) Of course, add additional postage costs if outside the U.S. I'm looking for feedback from the DSL userbase about content on the CD versions.. ( which extensions? , they won't ALL fit! ) The DVD versions will "mirror the mirrors" for every extension area. John and Robert are both fully aware of my interest in this activity, and welcome the help and increased distribution for DSL. I appreciate their trust.. I will soon post up a webpage with more information about content, pricing and payment options (paypal or money order) , and some product descriptions and pictures.. Until then, send me an email to extensions (*at) damnsmalllinux (*dot) org , with request, boot version, choice of media, and contact info if interested. I'll add you to my growing list and reply shortly when product is available. Happy 4th! 73 ke4nt |
