I've been trying to change my DSL installation to work in Real-Time by using RTAI. I've downloaded kernel 2.4.27, installed the RTAI patch, compiled it and everything worked good. However, I'm now stuck in compiling RTAI because it seems I do not have the ncurses lib, neither the QT or GTK ones...rather strange...do I need the dev packages of them?
Anyway, what about shipping a Real-Time DSL for those who really need deterministic behaviour for robotics, control, etc?

Just a quick update: I managed to compile RTAI 3.2 (in a non-interactive way) and now everything is fine and I already managed to run some realtime applications.
Now I must find out how to replace the normal 2.4.26 kernel shipped with DSL with this new 2.4.27 realtime kernel. I must find out now how to remaster the CD (and install in a USB pen)...

Here is a tutorial for remasting feather, very similar to DSL. It should give you an idea of what it takes to create a remaster.

I never messed with kernels before, so i couldn't help you there.

hope it helps,
