Hi,
mplayer is good but also HUGE...
Since many people use DSL on low-end-machines they won't be able to play movies or anything bigger... You may try some mpeg-movies on your XMMS since it has an mpeg-plugin. Even when scaling down frequency and bitrate you need real cpu-power to decompress it...
And to just use it for very small movies or music - well xmms does that fine IMO.
Just my thoughts about mplayer and DSL.

Bye,

How do you get the plugins working?   I have been looking for a plugin which plays WMA files, and I found two which say they do it, but it looks like you have to make them (one of them says you have to make XMMS with the plugin attached...).

 Thanks for your help.

MPlayer doesnt seem to work.  Probably since I am using a P133 with 48 MEGs of RAM.  Xine wants to load up, but once I get a screen it shuts down.  Mplayer just doesnt want to even boot.   :(
