adding memtest86Forum: DSL Ideas and Suggestions Topic: adding memtest86 started by: anglachel Posted by anglachel on Feb. 01 2004,05:56
Would like to have memtest included in dsl... I have nother live CD that came with memtest 86 on it, and it is amazing how often you test for bad memory when you have a computer that is unstable. I don't know if it will fit but it sure would be handy.

I second that. Memtest86 is the perfect tool for the perfect diagnosis distro. It could be included as a boot option, like Gentoo's LiveCDs have.

If you want to add memtest86, go for it.My guess is that since there is barely enough space for the DSL files, it will be difficult to keep the disk size under the non-negotiable 50MB limit. But if you want to make your own custom CD, go for it. Good Luck. Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Sep. 18 2004,19:25
Or, you could make a .dsl of it and make it avaiable for everyone!-SaidinUnleashed Posted by ke4nt1 on Sep. 18 2004,19:59
memtest86 is best used from a fresh boot, without any OS or programs loaded in ram besides memtest iself.. 73 ke4nt Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Sep. 18 2004,20:58

< This > comes with a mess of ultilities. Though its 120 something megs.I do think you can strip it off a few to get it down to 50. Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Sep. 20 2004,00:26
considering that the whole DSL distribution is (and has to stay) less than 50 MB, I don't think that will help .

Who says you have to use DSL to test ram...UBCD is perfect for system maintenanceBrian AwPhuch Posted by MakodFilu on Feb. 01 2007,18:07
I already added it to my DSL 3.2 USB-ZIP flash drive without problems. Now I have memtest as another cheat code without typing anything
