How about Pico or Nano? I like those and the nano tiny build is VERY small, easy to add on

I think VIM should do!

How about all 3? I use all 3, vim isn't that big either.

EDIT: or is it...

Vim is actually pretty large when you look at its dependency requirements.  DSL already has three editors + a word processor, I think that's enough.

nVi is a lot smaller than Vim, it is not as feature rich, but not bad.
Zile is a compact EMACS clone.
Nedit is a nice gui editor.

Nano would be redundant.

Nah, I don't think so, I prefer to use it more than vi, and it's not like it takes up too much space (973k for the big build, the small is really small)

How small can vim get?  The smallest build I can find is over 400k.

what's wrong with the plain old flwriter and vi that are already included? Is there some file format or other extension that is feasible to attempt to fit into a 50MB distribution?

I just like nano, that's all :)

I just wasn't sure if there was some type of extension that others are using that I'm not aware of (I still remember being overwhelmed by the variables and options available in OpenOffice after having use WordPerfect @ the school for so long).... Then at school I'll go, "Man, I sure wish that right now I could use (insert function here) ----" and everyone else just goes to crickets.

a better word processor wouldn't be a bad idea.
I mean as for browsing, links hacked or dillo are very very good. they've got it all (almost).
but FL Writer hum....it's not at the same level.

Heh, right now I am just loving antiword, that program is awesome :)

Posted by davide on Oct. 10 2003,09:24
but antiword just *reads* MS word documents, doesn't it?
I was thinks about an old version of abiword or a kind of. but I suppose that is too big to fit.

I still believe the choice of software and hardware should be up to the user. Thus, if you like vi, fine; Nano, fine too. That is why I am interested in installing "real" Debian and customizing it to my needs.
