I checked the package list, and noticed that partimage wasnt on it.

Anyone considered adding it?

I know space is at at premium, but this would be damn useful (pardon the pun), especially in a recovery situation.

You can use dd to create exact duplicates of your partition, or use the parted.dsl if you need more functionality than that.

DSL is a desktop distro, not really intended tobe a recovery distro, though we do include many tools for that.

Many uses, many hats, just one DSL.

Hmm...

I thought that there once was a Rescue tools DSL extension that might have partimage in it, but I can't find it now.

It should be possible to build a partimage extension, in theory.

you want build a partimage in your DSL ?
go to partimage.org, download the static package.
tar it.
cp the two files which are tared from the package partimage and partimaged to /bin.
then you can use this tool anywhere.

How would I do this if I was running from a CD?

Open the ISO?

No,

All you need to do is download and install gcc1.dsl from the myDSL repository (requires a decent amount of available RAM or swapfile).

Then you can compile partimage.  Then you need to corral the resulting files into a myDSL extension.

Or you can try apt-get the partimage program and use the deb2dsl script to build an extension from the binaries.

Search the forums for keyword

deb2dsl

and search ALL FORUMS and FROM THE BEGINNING or NEWER

Hi,

Here is my solution:

I tryed do download with apt-get but I only find a partimage.doc.

I was going to partimage web and download the binary files, this tar.gz has 2 files:
partimage and partimaged (daemon).

I put the partimage file in my DSL pendrive.

Within a terminal window in DSL now I can backup the harddisks of my desktop computer

Another posibility is within emelfm select the partimage.tar.gz and clic on Mydsl buttom, now you have the two files installed and you can execute partimage from a terminal window.

Have luck!!

Trick is how would I get those changes onto a bootable CD.

Not every computer these days can boot from USB.
