Suppose two systems are on the same network. The first to load DSL
is host:DSL1 which was decided because it couldn't find DSL1.
Now the second DSL comes up on computer two. It looks for DSL1,
finds it, and becomes DSL2, and so on.  Perhaps a simple script would work.
Any thoughts about the idea? Anybody?

If I understand you correctly, why not use the 'host=' cheatcode and have one machine with 'host=DSL1' and one with 'host=DSL2' and now you have two unique machines on the LAN.

Gee, I tried that and it didn't work. Now, the setup uses DHCP...
I figured it needed something more. Hey, this ol' lady used rs-232
between two computers and that was a network. What cha want?

Hey, it was just an idea. These systems work just dandy, then you
stick a router on them, and everything works differently. I'm suggesting
a simple auto setup, that removes the need for a network administrator,
or network competence when you're trying to explain how to get a file
copied from one computer to another one that has crashed - over the phone. (You don't want to know...)
