frozen keyboard and mouse

Hello all.
I have had a weird problem lately. It started off as a sigsegv signal 11 problem while running kde on slax. It would crash konqueror as well as kcalc. I took out each piece of ram and ran it seperatly with no problems so i place both pieces of ram back and that problem stopped. I then switched from using slax to dsl and noticed that the mouse and keyboard freezes the keyboard completely fails I cant even hit number or caps lock to get the light o to come on, it acts as if it was unplugged. When it happens i also noticed that the screen flashes once really quickly right befor it freezes. Slax and knoppix also do the same thing.

Now the weird part if i unplug the hard drive the machine does not freeze??
I also used another drive while running dsl and the same thing happens

I then did a HD install of slax and the same thing happens
only way out is restart with power button this makes diagnosis almost impossible.

When using windows me it does not freeze.


so has anyone had this happen to them

specs
800 mhz celeron
emachine no name motherboard
sis 305 video card
west digital 20 gig drive

could it be a power supply issue??? or is my computer haunted?
