I am happy!  I managed to burn DSL's iso image ver 2.2RC1 and make it work for me.  I learned how to boot the live CD with the right resolution [ <F3> and then follow the instructions...] and managed to get a pretty sight of DSL's desktop.   :D

Being such a stud, I managed to connect to my ISP [ Yes, I am writing this using my live DSL CD... ] and even showed a seasoned Linux user how to do it at another forum I visit quite frequently.

So, what am I bee-atching about?  The windows of some apps like Firefox, Dillo, etc. are freaking HUGE!  I can't see the upper part of the window with the minimize, maximize, and close buttons.  My wild guess is that I am not specifying the right setttings for xvesa  :(  :(

Can somebody point me towards a fantastic way to have reasonably sized windows for my applications?

I am a gratefull DSL n00b who is slowly becoming more and more enamoured with this elegant Linux distro.  I also use Fedora Core 4 for my day to day important things like web-browsing, playing chess over internet, playing backgammon, emailing, and some light word processing...  Why am I trying to learn DSL?  Because I want to learn about Linux and Debian and this looked like a fantastic place to start.

Respectfully yours,

-D-

EDIT: Problem solved... Just <CTRL>+<ALT>+<BACKSPACE> to switch over to a command prompt. Then type
Code Sample
xsetup.sh
to enter the right settings for the screen.  Once that's done
Code Sample
startx
Things may not look fine here but right-click with the mouse and do:

System > xvesa

Choose the setting that best looks in your screen (Mine was 800x600x16).

Wow!  I learned a couple of things today: Connect to the Internet with DSL live CD and fix the resolution of my screen.  I am proud of myself!

It might be easier to use the dsl xsetup command line at the boot prompt.  That way xsetup.sh runs before X starts so you won't need to shut it down first.

I'm glad you got it working.

Today I forgot to watch out while my dsl live CD was rebooting (You know, I was fixing breakfast...)  When I went back to check on my computer the screen looked like crap and I just right-clicked at an empty space on the desktop with the mouse and did:

System > xvesa

and chose the setting that best looks on my screen (800x600x16)...

I didn't have to use any special boot option!   :O

I am waiting for my USB memory stick from John so that I can wow everybody in town with DSL...

The more I play with DSL the more I love it...

I'm a noob here too, and I think the tech support rocks! Each time I posted a question here, I either got a direct answer, ro was led in the right direction. Thanks to all of those who go out of their way to help out us noobs!
