Step-By-Step DSL Installation Instructions:Forum: DSL Tips and Tricks Topic: Step-By-Step DSL Installation Instructions: started by: whiteweasel Posted by whiteweasel on July 05 2006,01:13
I've posted detailed DSL installation instructions, documenting what I did with two Mitsubishi Amity CN laptops which have no USB ports and cannot boot from CD-ROM. The instructions should, with minor tweaks, work just as well for any similar older hardware that can't boot from CD-ROM.The Amity CN is a circa 1997 133MHz Pentium subnotebook, 48MB RAM, 1.2GB hard drive. Performance running DSL 3.0.1 is very good indeed. I did a frugal installation but used persistent /opt, /home, and mydsl to effectively create what Roberts calls a hybrid installation. I do use some applications not currently available as DSL extensions so the persistent /opt gives me a place to put them without eating up my RAM disk. See: http://www.mizuhoradio.com/personal/caitlyn/lightweightlinux/amitycn.html For the developers: I've also been saying nice things about DSL in the O'Reilly Linux Dev Center blog. |
