Neoware E100Forum: DSL Tips and Tricks Topic: Neoware E100 started by: mvmatch Posted by mvmatch on Sep. 19 2006,23:36
I read the thread started by Michel entitled "DSC-II or Damn Small Capio II" with much interest. I'm working to get DSL on a Neoware E100. This is a big brother to the Capio, VIA running at 800 MHz.I bought a few of them, maybe 4, for $6 US each. SIX BUCKS! One was new-in-the-box. The plan is to build a car computer out of one, since they run on 12 volts, maybe a multimedia client out of another. All but one has a riser card, so I thought it would be a simple matter to add a SCSI controller card and disk (which I just happened to have lying idle), load Linux and use one of these as a developement platform for the other projects. I suspect that in a configuration like this, I'll be able to write a system to it's flash, which is a 32M DOM on 3 and a 32M DOC on the 4th. No such luck. It finds the SCSI HD and SCSI CD drive, booted and ran DSL from the CD, but wouldn't let me install to the HD. Since I'm a total noob to DSL, next I tried Fedora (my distro of choice among "full-figured" distros). It went through all the motions, completed just fine as far as I can tell, but it won't boot from the HD. I'll figure something out sooner or later, but does anyone have any useful information about these besides what's on the Neoware website? The markings on the board indicate it's a "WinNETP620" in case that means anything to anybody. |
