using mplayer-1.0pre8cvs.uci with my nvidia 32MB agp video card I have to start gmplayer with -vo x11 parameter.

legalize cannabis, etc.

It uses -vo xv by default - it assumes you have XF86 set up properly to use the acceleration (like the mplayer-xfree86 extension).
Since you have a nvidia 32mb card, that shouldn't be a problem.  You could also just change the video driver in the options.

I don't want to install xfree86.
The streams go out of sync.

legalize cannabis, etc.

heh, that's interesting.

With video acceleration you usually get much more performance and quality - perhaps something else gets throttled.
Doesn't matter I guess if you have things the way you want.

mplayer-1.0pre8cvs.uci does not set a config file when you load it - if it did it would clobber whatever settings lay in an existing config file, and in any case different users may need different settings so I didn't want to set one at all. So with nothing set, I guess it looks for the xv driver.

My examples in the info file for cli and for the config file both set vo=x11

Perhaps the info file should make it clearer that you need to make a config file for use with the gui?  All required docs are included in the extension.

BTW mplayer is really designed as a cli program and it's worth getting friendly with the cli options - the gui seems a bit tacked on and has less switches than are available as a cli.

I have installed wine-0.9.18.unc. after the installation of internet explorer 6 i cant start ie6. there apears a message box, that means, that i shoul install some files from the gecko engine. how can i do that ? the computer where dsl and wine is installed, has now access to the internet...

1) Please don't tell me you want wine so you can run internet explorer....

2) You failed to mention that this was not an actual unc install.  Since you copied files into /opt that were intended to be united with the main */lib and */bin directories, the package is probably not going to work without some tweaking.  It may be as simple as specifying PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH variables to point to the wine directories.

You might want to look at the *.uci version of wine to see how that was set up to run in /opt

a) i need the uggly ie6 for only one reason: some software needs the active x features of internet explorer to work, it will not start without active x (ie) is installed. i willl not use the ie ! i have firefox 1.5.05 installed an i would not use this damn ie thing...

b) before 0.9.18 i had 0.9.12.uci installed, i cant install the ie with this version, the ie installer will go away with some horrible error. all other software is installed and worked very fine (photoshop 7, golive...)

i will boot up my laptop via cd-image and mount the uci extension, so that i can see the PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH variables.

BTW: is there a way to install vmware player ? i have a complete win98 image with all my software installed in this image for developing (CodeCharge, Photoshop, GoLive, Borland C++ Builder and so on..) Maybe thats the better solution, but i dont have found a vmware player extension yet...
