A major new extension providing hplip is now posted in testing.
Many thanks to Juanito for this.

I have posted part of his submission email here to explain the various parts.

1. hplip.tar.gz - the main programs (cups, espgs, hplip), libs, foomatic, fonts, etc
2. python-2.3.uci - v2.3.6 with the latest security updates
3. hplip_etc.dsl - conf files to be loaded once to /etc then added to backup
4. hplip_ppd.tar.gz - ppds to be loaded once then appropriate printer(s) added to backup
5. hplip_site-packages.tar.gz -files shared by hplip & python

Please read the info files for proper use.

This pertains to an older extension still in Testing. Gaim is described as "Konsole termninal program." It should be described as a GTK2(.10.9) AIM/MSN/etc client.

The info on screen.uci states it is version 4.0.3
The latest version on the GNU mirrors is 4.0.2 (2004)
Is this a development version, or "unofficial" patched version?

Thanks. There didn't seem to be any info about this on the GNU website, so I just assumed I've been using the newest version.

My plan for this weekend:
- Update all the '.info' files for all my submitted extensions, using identical formatting.
- aria2 (0.11.2) [aria2.uci -> aria2.tar.gz] 190K
- codecpak-lite.tar.gz [-> codecpak-lite.uci] 2.2M
- curl (7.16.4) [curl.uci -> curl.tar.gz] 110K
- elinks (latest-dev) [elinks.uci -> elinks.tar.gz] 280K
- MOC (2.4.3) [moc.uci -> moc.tar.gz] 300K
- wine-0.9.4x.uci (0.9.43)

I thought it would be good to notify in advance.
Thanks!

Gmail? Any free web hosting?
Posted by mikshaw on Aug. 24 2007,22:46
ftp is another option, although I think it would require robert to set you up with a temporary account before uploading.

"Any free web hosting" doesn't necessarily work. My Yahoo account apparently allows a maximum attachment of 10mb. I don't see that in writing anywhere, but I have never succeeded in sending a file larger than that.

- The new configuration directory is '/home/dsl/.bitlbee'.

This is caused by CTRL-C termination. It is not a bug. LOL!
I have emailed the new 'bitlbee.tar.gz' to the usual address.
So, please look out for it. Thanks!

Kuky, I got the file, thanks. But I need an md5sum to verify that the file is OK. Also need the .info file. Since these two files are very small please email to extensions so that the file integrity may be validated.
I will post as soon as I recieve them.

I made the mydsl of xarchive, a program for compressing / decompressing files like tar.gz, zip rar, ecc.
I've already send the files  to exensions at damnsmalllinux.org but I also have them on < http://xoomer.alice.it/jls >.

P.S. If u want 2 unrar u need 2 install rar.dsl

legalize cannabis, etc.

Plans for this weekend:
- Update 'mplayer.uci' (to latest SVN)
- Submit 'mplayerplug-in.dsl'
- Update 'moc.uci' (to 2.4.3); thinking of changing the name to 'mocp.uci' ('moc' seems too generic?)

Considering the application's name is MOC, i don't see how it would be too generic. Using the command name doesn't seem like it would make it any more useful or descriptive (unless there is another program called moc out there?)

Posted by stupid_idiot on Aug. 28 2007,12:56
Makes sense.
I should continue with 'moc.uci'.
Thanks mikshaw.

Now posted:
rtorrent.uci v 0.7.7

Thanks goes to J.S.

Hello all,
regarding 'mplayer.uci' and friends:
- 'mplayer.uci' [2.2M] is ready (latest SVN) + some changes (see below)
- Would like to rename codecs according to group; request to take down 'codecpak-lite.tar.gz' and 'codecpak.uci'; to be replaced with 'codecs-qtx.uci' [2.1M], 'codecs-real.tar.gz' [160K], 'codecs-win32.uci' [4.2M], and 'codecs-wmp.uci' [1.9M].
So we have these directories:
Code Sample

/opt/codecs-qtx/
/opt/codecs-real/
/opt/codecs-win32/
/opt/codecs-wmp/

And we also have symlinks in '/opt/mplayer/lib/codecs/' pointing to the codecs in these separate directories.

What does everyone think?
Thanks.

I didn't see any feedback in this thread for the hplip extensions in testing - but in continued use, I found a few issues I didn't spot earlier:

1. Printing - no additional issues found other than I'm still struggling to share printers with windows machines.

2. Faxing - I discovered hplip does not support fax on my OfficeJet G85 and there are "issues" (dixit hplip-help mailing list) with the fax support of an OfficeJet K80 I have occasional access to - this has made it difficult for me to test the faxing functionality of hplip.

I did find that hplip required the python readline.so extension in order to set up a fax as a cups printer - I couldn't compile the extension, but the one available in the python2.3 deb seems to work:
Code Sample
$ sudo hp-setup -i --type=fax --fax=OfficeJetK80FaxTest

Note that regardless of whether /opt/python-2.3/bin is in the path, the only way make this work as root is to symlink python to /usr/bin (the hp-* commands work fine without the symlink as user dsl). It is also necessary to copy HP-Fax-hplip.ppd.gz from /opt/ppd/HP to /usr/share/cups/model otherwise hp-setup will not find it.

It is possible to add a fax to cups directly, but the fax uri does not appear in the drop-down box. I managed to do this by chosing another device (eg "printer on USB #1") and then editing /etc/cups/printers.conf to add the correct uri.

All this notwithstanding, when I try to send a test page to the fax, cups gives the error "/opt/hplip/lib/cups/backend/hpfax failed" - perhaps this is the "issue" with the K80 and other faxes might work?

3. Scanning - I neglected to mention in the info file that /etc/sane.d/dll.conf needs to be added to the backup in order for scanning to work. In addition, there was a problem with the _imaging.so extension in hplip_site-packages that prevented hp-scan from working. I have recompiled it and things seem fine now:
Code Sample
$ hp-scan -dhpaio:/usb/OfficeJet_K80?serial=ES0911401VOH -n -r75 --size=a4 -ftest.jpg
$ scanimage --format=tiff > test.tiff

I'll test a while longer and then submit the revised extensions & info files.

Hi all,

How do I submit my extension for testing?

Thanks Phil

email the extension, or location is it stored at to extensions@damnsmalllinux.org. Include the md5sum for the file & remember the info file.
