Good morning to everybody.

I am testing "all" the MyDSL optional extensions and I have encountered a problem. May be it is solved already but I think it is not yet.

My goal is to use the Open Office suite as a "link" to open my documents both, in Windows (because is my environement at work) and in Linux because I love to use Linux at home. Here DSL offers a good solution while I use the optional openoffice-1.1.4.tar.gz. But there is a limitation: This version of OpenOffice does not open MS Access databases.

I though that this limitation could be resolved using the version 2.0 that comes with capability to open MS Access databases. But then another problem comes: when I try to use the optional extension Openoffice-2.0.uci to open a MS Database, it needs a Java Runtime to be installed in the DSL box. Without this Java Runtime OpenOffice-2.0.uci is unable to deal with tables or forms, thus remains unable to open MS Access databases.

I have tried to use the optional extension jre1_5_0.tar.gz, but I have learnt that is designed specifically for Firefox, and OpenOffice-2.0.uci does not recognize its Java Runtime to be installed.

Did anyone solve this problem? If I do not use this MyDSL extension, is any 'hope' I can solve the problem by installing any other Java Runtime? Where can I get this runtime to include in my CDRom where MyDSL 'sleeps'?

Thanks in advance for answers.

PS: Visit my web. It is in Spanish but it is 'advertising' DSL

This is just a guess, so don't take it as fact...
Maybe changing your CLASSPATH environment variable will allow you to point OOo to jre.
CLASSPATH=/opt/jre1_5_0/lib
or something like that

The jre uci extension is not built only for Firefox. Past discussions were only concerning the libjavaplugin which is only a part of the jre.

I would try mikshaw's suggestion and you might also have to set

export PATH="$PATH:/opt/jre1_0_5/bin/"
export JAVA_HOME="/opt/jre1_0_5"

Let us know.

OK Mik & Roberts, I have been able, following your indications, to find where is placed the JRE in the DSL filesystem. I had no idea.

The suggested code you gave me did not work, at least in my case. Trying some other way I have been able actually to 'enable' the JRE to be reached by the OO: by means of the options menu of the OO application itself.

After it, the Base program worked aparently well.

Nevertheless I could still not open a file produced by MS Access with this JRE enabled OO, and I got a message telling me more or less that the connexion could not be done because the drive could be wrong. Since I had copied before the file in the /home/DSL directory and checked the permisions of the file, I do not understand what is the problem right now. But I have advanced a step forward.

Thanks again. To be continued ...

Regards.

OK, once known where to edit the JRE specification of OO, I have tested not to enable any JRE (in the options menu of OO).

Now the message I get is related to the SDBC driver. OO 2.0 claims that cannnot find any SDBC driver, to open a database. Maybe the message of yesterday was related to the same, not to any 'drive', but 'driver'.

Where can I find this SDBC driver?

Thank you.

I thought...

That I once opened up the OO options,
and pointed the default java to the /opt/jre1_5_0/bin ..

which it then worked fine..

I'll double check, and post..

In some other tests I performed today, the 'base' app has worked apparently well unchecking java runtime in the options menu of OO and unchecking registering the new database for OO.

I am trying a little more and I will inform later of the results.

:)
