Hi,
How can Install QIV or feh so they load everytime i boot.  They are not MyDSL apps so how do install them?  I have a partitioned compact flash disk which i boot from and wish to load pictures from a USB stick.  DSL seems to be what i need but the included picture viewer doesnt support slideshows.

Ive even tried to install them and I can't "make" the installation either.

Help!

The gtksee.dsl package in the applications section of the repository
will do slideshow.
It's easier than getting the .debs of qiv or feh and then putting a script
in bootlocal.sh to load them at boot...and all the deps.
Feh, at least, has a lot of deps.

Thanks.  Just downloaded and now it wornt run from the desktop icon.  If I double click in Emelfm the commadn window at the bottom says the following;

Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library
Warning: locale not supported by C library, locale unchanged
/usr/bin/gtksee: error while loading shared libraries: libtiff.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Any ideas?

Yes. I had been using an earlier version of this package
with DSL 2.0, called gtksee5.2.dsl, wasn't aware it had been
updated and lost libtiff along the way.The current version with
DSL 2.0 gave me the same results as you had.
So sorry, thats a bummer.
But you might try the GQview package for slideshow too,
although I can't say I've run it myself.

Hope it works for you!

gtksee.dsl in the apps section of the repository has been updated to include the libtiff libraries and should work now for DSL v2.x

Thanks Roberts, dl'd it via firefox,
md5summed it o.k, still not getting
libtiff.

ldd /usr/bin/gtksee indicates libtiff.so.4 is required,
package gives me libtiff.so.3 link libtiff.so.3.5.7,
so wont start.
Which is odd.

I just downloaded via mydsl tool and browsed over to /usr/share/fluxbox/backgrounds and it worked fine.
The libs added are the same ones that worked fine in 1.5.

Can you test with base and norestore options?
Maybe something else you have loaded?

Otherwise I cannot reproduce it not running and displaying basic jpg and png images in the base system.

Note also even when I run from command line
$gtksee
I get no errors.

It was quicker for me to boot a plain vanilla DSL 2.0
live cd- no root packages, no optionals, no backups/myconfs.
Used MyDSL for the second time ever, got icon on
desktop, but no launch, same result when launching from cl,
the message about libtiff.so.4.
But now I realise that I have a frugal install on this machine,
the live cd could have picked up something from there, I'll
try another machine and let you know.

Edit*
Yup, did the no restore, base on another machine, same
thing, used MyDSL to get gqview, that went well.
I'm not trying for the "Pain of 2006" award, at least not this early
in the year, I'll just stick with the earlier package 'cos I seem to be
the only one having a problem with it.
Thanks Roberts

Try dsl-v2.1RC3b that is what I was using.
Appears dsl-v2.0 is no go.

I made another adjustment so that it works with v2.0.
Thanks for hanging in there with me, keeping me honest.
I am always running the latest, if not a dev cut, of DSL and failed to check it out on the last stable released version.
But it should work now. Tested on v2.0 base norestore liveCD.

:)

Oh yeah, there she goes!
Where'd you steal that libtiff.so.4 from?
You can't complain about the service around
here!
Thanks again.
