Two I've tried since yesterday that haven't worked (i.e., don't load, cause desktop icons to freeze, etc.)

mplayer.unc
gcc1-with -libs.unc

I'm using a Dell latiitude laptop with 3.2 installed (frugal, grub); 250M ram

Loaded:
gtk2.0705.unc
gnumeric.unc
jre1.5.uci
tcltk-8.4.uci
firefox-1.5.uci

Topic moved to extensions.

Until all extensions are UCI or self contained ala RAD, you may always have one extension possibly overwriting files or libraries of the system or even another extension's required environment.

Since extensions are built by the community, there is no assurance that all extension combinations will play nice. YMMV.

Sorry for misdirecting the post.  Since the dsl versions of the extentions have never presented any problems, I must have wrongly assumed that it might be a UNC issue.

I experimented a bit more, using mplayer.unc.  The problem ONLY occurs when the unc is loaded from Emelfm. It appears to load successfully, but then the desktop icons freeze (e.g, Emelfm, Firefox, Siag, etc.....not DSLpanel, which has a .lua extention). Mplayer loaded from xterm works fine.

See change log since v3.0. Do not use Emelfm to load extensions.

Just found it in John's post from June 20, 2006; that accounts for the freezes; why not just disable the Emelfm MyDsl button rather than leave it kind of working?   Thanks

It was removed and replaced.
Again, see roberts' last post for more details.

Can you please be more vague.

Hi Hats,

Yes, I already found that; thus my post regarding June 20, 2006, where John posted it. The Emelfm "myDSL" button is still present, however, so somebody who hasn't read the post from 2006 might use it and not know why the UNC's freeze up.  It still works with just about everything else, including UNC's, sometimes.

Are you using a backed up version of emelfm files from an old DSL? That may account for the button still being there. Maybe the button is still there, but i don't see it.

To upgrade from all prior versions of dsl...

Emelfm loading of local extensions has been deprecated.
Please update as follows:

cp /etc/skel/.emelfm/buttons /home/dsl/.emelfm/.
cp /etc/skel/.emelfm/filetypes /home/dsl/.emelfm/.

This is from site news when v3.0 was released on 06/20/2006

Thanks Roberts; I just found your original post on the next page following John's change log.  Button removed! (Note: I like UNC's a whole lot more without the freezeups...).. :D

edit: Hi Mikshaw,
I did a frugal grub install from an iso of 3.2 which I burned to a disk, using the format (not update) function.  Now I know there's a few other things to do (like read everything from all the previous versions).
