yeahconsole requires xterm or urxvtForum: Apps Topic: yeahconsole requires xterm or urxvt started by: mikshaw Posted by mikshaw on Aug. 18 2007,22:59
I just started playing with yeahconsole (< http://phrat.de/yeahtools.html >), which provides a quake-like terminal that hides and reappears with a key toggle...kinda groovy, particularly when using a tiling window manager.Unfortunately it doesn't work with aterm since the terminal must be embeddable (xterm and urxvt are the only ones it currently supports). So I was wondering if anyone has already created a xterm or (preferably) urxvt (aka rxvt-unicode) uci/unc extension that I overlooked when searching the repository? If not, I guess I'll do it myself =o) After that (and after icewm/lighttpd updates and htop), yeahconsole will hopefully be available in myDSL. Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Aug. 19 2007,06:34
That app sounds like a cool idea to try outI think DSL 1.x and older used rxvt, if you just want to test out this first. Posted by mikshaw on Aug. 19 2007,12:29
I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble of digging out an old disk. I assume that rxvt is not capable of being embedded. Aterm is based on rxvt and is not...would they actually *remove* a feature like that?In any case, if urxvt doesn't exist in myDSL I suspect it's time it did =o) I have a feeling I might lose interest in yeahconsole pretty quickly, though. It's only been a day and already I'm wondering if it has any real benefit for me apart from one-key toggle and looking cool. And so far I still prefer aterm over urxvt. I think I'll have to look into its cpu/ram usage. Posted by mikshaw on Sep. 05 2007,13:01
It seems that yeahconsole also requires XFree86, or at least that's the impression I'm getting. It starts with no trouble and no errors, but does not display =opI think I'm going to pass on this, at least until I have the desire to install XFree Screwing around with IceWM now. I forgot how much of a pain it was to build for DSL =o) |
