I think I looked at this a while ago and there was a problem with dependencies.

I have compiled avidemux 2.0.22.  A lot dependencies it has as well.  Works well so far on a hard drive install, edits and converts avi files as well as mpgs.  Has yet to hiccup on the hard drive, but it is still flaky on the live system (GTK2 issue).  When (or if) I get a stable dsl package I will post it somewhere if anyone is interested.
