Firefox-1.5.uci doesn't work in DSL 2.3Forum: Net Topic: Firefox-1.5.uci doesn't work in DSL 2.3 started by: Winter Knight Posted by Winter Knight on June 04 2006,22:23
I boot up DSL 2.3, LiveCD. I load firefox-1.5.uci as an extension, and try to run it. I complains about not having gtk 2.0 libraries. Well, the info file didn't say anything about requiring gtk libraries, but ok. So I load gtk2-0705.dsl. Then I run firefox again. I get a whole bunch of gdk (yes, a "d") related errors. And panda or something. I can post those errors if someone wants. The uci I built, firefox-1.5.0.4.uci, has the exact same problems under DSL. However, they both work fine in DSL-n. Does anyone know what libraries are required by firefox-1.5.uci? Because I think my extension requires the same ones, and I don't want to upload it to myDSL before i test it. And why aren't those dependencies in the info file? Posted by Winter Knight on June 04 2006,23:39
Well, guess who feels foolish?Apparently, to fully load the gtk libraries, you have to open the x menu, and MyDSL->Update_to_GTK2. I used to know that. I would have noticed, but I'm more of a keyboard person. After you do this, firefox-1.5.uci works okay. I still think that if a third-party library is required, it should be in the info file, and I am still disappointed that this error got past testing and into uci. Also, my firefox-1.5.0.4.uci works too. In fact, I am using DSL2.3 and my new extension to post this. Expect an updated firefox in myDSL soon. No more being vulnerable to known security flaws. At least for a month or two. Unfortunately, firefox-bin keeps giving me an error, saying "Gdk-Warning" Error converting from UTF-8 to STRING. Conversion from character set UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1' is not supported. Does anyone know how to fix that? I don't think I got that error with firefox-1.5.uci, just my new firefox-1.5.0.4.uci. i have to remember that one Posted by dtf on June 09 2006,16:30
You are not alone on that one. Posted by Mangey on June 11 2006,08:54
I am trying to get firefox to run in busybox and I get the same warnings before a segmentation fault. I know it's not DSL but this is the only place I have found where others have experienced this problem in a tiny linux fs. I am interested to know of any specific kernel parameters as well as lib requs. I have simply copied FC3 libraries in to appropriate dirs. The firefox dir (therefore moz libs) are mounted nfs for expediency. Anyone can point me in the right dir? |
