modules ?Forum: System Topic: modules ? started by: wavetel Posted by wavetel on Oct. 31 2007,08:37
Ok sorry about this but I really dont know where to put this question on the forums . I still dont understand what this folder is for at /mydsl/modulesWhat files go in here normally and how are they treated differently? Ive found a group of files in the mydsl downloads that are modules and they appear to be drivers and wrappers but its not entirely clear as to why this is all arranged like this or in fact if those files go into the /mydsl/modules folder. Ive noticed that if I put DSL exts into this folder then the system seems to notice them on startup but maybee it does not load them like it would in the /mydsl folder. I am using DSL v4.0 Any hints and ideas appreciated. Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Oct. 31 2007,13:25

Ok I think I understand this all now. I found the optional folder as well since last posting and this seems to help me put it all together. When I said it seems to "notice if I put DSL exts into this folder" I was refering to the boot screen prior to the GUI. It seems to list the files it finds in the /mydsl /mydsl/modules and /mydsl/optional folders . The folder I was really looking for was the optional . This works brilliantly in that I can load up alot of oversized mydsl exts in the optional folder and run the system up (on USB stick) on anything from a 366Mhz machine with 128 Megs of ram up to a Athlon with 2Gigs of ram. I just cant run up the big apps like Office etc on the smaller machine. Getting a bit closer to making a customised CD now. Thanks |
