Hi, winux suggested changing the default keymap for fr to fr-latin1 (in knoppix-autoconfig)
Posted by roberts on Jan. 09 2008,15:28
OK. Will change KEYTABLE as requested.

In 4.2.3 and 4.2.2 the pppdial through the icons of the dfm windows don't work, but through the menu items works OK.

After write the provider and click dial the terminal windows stay quiet.

The solution is to put, in the Shellcommand of the icon's option, sudo before !0!

"sudo !0!"

Thanks for reporting. Will fix.

Did you get your gateway or did you have to manually add?

Posted by Onyarian on Jan. 09 2008,16:19
Sorry, I don't understand what you mean with "Did you get your gateway", I add sudo before !0! manually in the icon's option of the dfm window and in a deskop icon  that I drag and copied from pppdial, and now works!

(sorry my spanglish)

Good to hear it works.

Someone else reported that the dial up connection did not work until they entered a route command to manually enter a gateway.

The script has always worked for me. I do not have to enter a gateway.

Ok,
When I utilize ppp dial it works directly, without any more command, with the provider configuration is enough.

When I utilize at home the netcard with static IP, without DHCP, I write the gateway from the router in the netcarconfig.

:(

my usb wireless card do not work (config ndiswrapper by aterm and by dsl panel) i make the test with live cd and hd install, previous in ver 4.2.2 works (the only problem with ver 4.2.2 that i reported was a conflict with an old ver of gtk2.dsl).with ver 3.4.9 also no work.

actually the card (fujitsu-siemens usb1705, sis163u.inf) works in the windows partition ....

:;):  roberts undo the ndiswrapper change please...i begin to have a ndiswrapper-paranoia...
ndiswrapper works ok to all except me..??
???

I just upgraded from 4.2.1 to 4.2.3 and ndiswrapper no longer works for me also:
Code Sample
$ sudo /usr/local/bin/ndiswrapper.sh /mnt/sda1/drivers/ndiswrapper/bcmwl5a.inf wlan0 essid wep  2>&1 >/dev/null
Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) :
SET failed on device wlan0; No such device.
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device wlan0; No such device.

- is there some step-wise trouble-shooting I could try?

Also - a small issue I know, but with the new mkisofs the old switches no longer work:
Code Sample
$ sudo mkisofs -R -hide-rr hplip/ | create_compressed_fs - 65536 > /tmp/hplip.uci
Bad Option '-hide-rr' (error -1 BADFLAG).
Usage: mkisofs [options] [-find] file... [find expression]

- is there a recommended way to proceed with this new mkisofs for extensions?

Oh, I didn't know it was that old, since that option has been changed for some time now..
Try --hide-rr-moved

I don't think they changed the option... they probably just removed "autocomplete".  I think it was always --hide-rr-moved.

I guess that would have been me. I believe (although I haven't tested) that it may be related to the fact that I'm connected to a local network through eth0, and that device is kept as the default even after the dialup connection succeeds. The manual setting of ppp0 as the default device has been something I've needed to do in DSL from the start, and was also needed on my Slackware system.  I don't think it's specific to DSL...might just be the way pppd works.

I connect to the net with my laptop in four forms, and every form directly without more adjustments, because the connections are through pcmcia cards that are detected during the boot of DSL.
So at home I utilize the eth0 pcmcia directly or the wifi pcmcia.
In other places the 56k modem pcmcia with dialup connection, and finally during some travels with the bluetooth pcmcia to connect through my mobiltelephone
In no case I have connected two of the pcmcias at the same time, so there are no conflicts during the detection and connection to the net.

Is the kernel used for 4.x the same as the one used for 2.x?
Specifically, does the nvidia driver that works for DSL 2.x now work for the current DSL?

Yes.
It should, as afaik the kernel was rolled back for things like that.

Imagemagick.uci (just downloaded) Commands do not function in 4.2.3.
They do work with 3.4.9

Posted by roberts on Jan. 13 2008,18:41
Load without errors, displays images to edit without errors.
I can use the command convert with errors.

NMI.

I just upgraded from 4.2.1 to 4.2.3 and ndiswrapper no longer works for me ...

I have recompiled and reinstalled ndiswrapper.
Just received help in testing with positive results, thanks Lucky13.

Will be posting a 4.2.4 rsn.

Re Imagemagick:

Opens image okay.

On left-click on image opens "image magic" with all the commands, File, Edit etc.
Nothing happens when I click on any of them, the arrow changes shade.

Edit:
'convert' does not appear under any of the 'pop-up'  commands (checked using 3.4.9)

Posted by roberts on Jan. 13 2008,19:54
The left click menu works fine on a base norestore.
Therefore might be another extension is overwriting a library or other common file.

Posted by JohnJS on Jan. 13 2008,20:15
Re Imagicmagic with 4.2.3.
Tried with base norestore. No other extension loaded.
Still have same problem.
Will do a clean install of 4.2.3 or 4.2.4.
Thanks for help.
