Hey, I'm having trouble with mkliloboot. I enter '/dev/hdc1' (without the inverted commas) and it all goes relatively smoothly until it tries to edit the MBR.

I have win98 as my primary master (hda1) (fat16), a cd-rom as my primary slave, DSL linux as my secondary master (hdc1) (ext2), and a storage drive as my secondary slave (hdd1) (fat32).

Here's an snippet of the mkliloboot messages...
Quote

Warning: /etc/lilo.conf should be writable only for root
Warning: '/proc/partitions' does not exist, disc scan bypassed
Warning: /dev/hdc is not on the first disc
Adding Linux *
Skipping /vmlinuz.old
Warning: BIOS drive 0x82 may not be accessible
Warning: BIOS drive 0x82 may not be accessible
Added Windows(hdd1)
Added Windows(hda1)
The lilo boot installation process is finished.
You must reboot to complete the final stage of the hard drive install.

Could I make a lilo bootdisk or something, instead? I did try this, but the tutorial said I needed to copy '/boot/boot.b' which doesn't exist.

What happened to hdb1???

It doesn't have another hard drive... I don't know what hdb is. :/

anyway, I installed it on hda1 and it works fine.

Here's another way to do it without Lilo:

It's not a "real" hard drive install, just uses the hard drive to
store the restoration tarball, but, one can run Damn Small Linux 0.6.1 and
Luit Linux 0.2 (dsl remaster) on the same machine! Just put the tarballs in
different partitions, run one off a /knoppix folder in /dev/hda1, and the
other off of the cdrom drive.

Lots of fun!

I'm guessing you have one hard drive connected to your CD-ROM IDE cable?
