Back working on a portable OS solution.
Could not post in the RC forum so I will try here.
I tried to find the sata modules as describe in the post in this forum.
I end up downloding 2.1 iso and burning a bootable cd.
Could not find the tarball with the sata modules on the RC mirrors.

I need sata_nv for all the machines here.
Tried modprobe sata_nv in DSL 2.1RC no luck files were not found
on the CD.  searched for *.ko to see where the kernel modules were and
none found.

So how do I get the sata_nv module for DSL?

Pen drive with DSL 1.4 I bought from you does not appear in DSL2.1
I hope to reload it with a sata savy release.

Do harddrives and removeable drives appear as icons on the desktop
as with Knoppix?  Where will they mount in the DSL file system?

Thanks for all the hard work.
With SATA it will be truely portable.

We don't use icons for hard drives or removable drives.
You can mount using the emelfm file manager program or the mount.app graphical tool.
The SATA modules for booting are located inside minirt24.gz and not in the main filesystem.
SATA support in compiled into the kernel.

In order to use SATA in 2.1RC1 you need to boot with the sata option

dsl sata

The SATA modules themseleves are in the current directory of the download area and are called additional_modules.tar.gz

and sata_nv is one of the modules that is probed at boot time if you type

dsl sata

at the boot prompt.

Thanks,
I'll give it a try tonight.
I'm expecting the "sata cheat code" will probe the hardware and load the sata_nv kenel module.  If not I'll find the module and use modprobe.  Maybe a boot script will be needed. I'm learning a little more Linux all the time. Fun stuff.

Yes, that is exactly what the cheat code will do.  No need to manual modprobe or boot script.

Wanted to let you know that "dsl sata" worked as planned.  I can see the sata drivers loaded in the control panel and the drives are mountable in /mnt.  Good Work!  I'll try moveing some around writing to the fat 32 partition and maybe burn some to cd for a test.  I plan to use dsl for my rescue and security program.
Many Thanks,
mort
