KB lang on Frugal installForum: HD Install Topic: KB lang on Frugal install started by: Nanobot Posted by Nanobot on May 20 2004,11:01
During the frugal installation script you are asked to specify keyboard layout, but no matter what language i choose the keyboard remains US. I tried to change the keyboard while running using kbdconfig, but to no avail. All replies will be greatly appreciated Posted by roberts on May 20 2004,14:28
Frugal only adds the lang code "shortcut" or "cheatcode" to the boot line. It would be the same as when running from the liveCD and you entered that language code. So, question, when you enter the same language code when booting from liveCD at the boot prompt does it work?

The cheatcode works fine for me on the liveCD, adding lang=da always gives me the danish layout to match my KB. When prompted by the frugal script to choose KB lang I type "da". But the KB is clearly US at next boot. How would one go about inserting the cheatcode after installation? If thats not possible I found that kbdconfig actually does work (just remember to restart X...doh). But it would be nice to have the keys working like they should right after boot. Posted by roberts on May 22 2004,17:55

I just wanted to report this issue as a bug in 1.2.1 when I first wanted to be sure it had not been already. As it had been fixed before I wanted to report that it's back in the script: the lilo line adds always "lang=us" before adding any additional value. And during boot only the first seems to be interpreted. But otherwise DSL just rocks! It made a dream come true: the completely no/extremely low noise PC with little power consumption (frugal install on CF). Thanks a lot for this excellent work! Michael |
