hi
i know that it was already discused on ths forum, but my problem is a little bit different, so i've got IBM Thinkpad
an i wanna instal DSL onto in, so i make two FAT partition
first one 700mb,  and secound 70mb for dsl iso. To do this i had to format my hdd ( it used to contains Win95) and my question is how to transport dsl iso onto it, while i can't put laptop hdd somewhere else cuz it's not standard 2,5" disk and it doesn't fill properly into slot. So i heard that there is posibilyty to do this with parrel port (that for printer), so my question is :
-how to do this
-can i use some floppy distribution

greetings

(sorry for my bad language)

one question less and one more:
which floppy distribution can i use without recompile kernel??

I have used both tomsrtbt (http://www.toms.net/rb/) and basic linux (http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/baslinux/). I don't know if their kernels comes with built in parallel support, but basic linux is based on Slack 7.1 so I guess that you could download a module.

You can also buy a small adapter that will allow you to plug your laptop HD into a standard IDE cable from any motherboard. I use them a lot when recycling old hard drives from old laptops. I think I last paid about $5 for one on ebay.

try modprobe plip and modprobe will insmod parport and bind it to plip for you and it will load ppp if it isen't compiled in to the kernel if it is no problem it's there and read to use

you don't see lp in /proc/devices because there is no device on /dev/lp0

parport is a stub for other modules and not realy a device driver

the standerd kernel that comes with almost all distros has every thing needed for setting up plip
