Hello to DSLForums,

I am working on doing a HDD install to an old HP Pavilion laptop that I  have.  the hdd is all one raw partition right now(6gb).  It is running fine off of a LiveCD right now and I have a few questions.  How do I create/edit/delete partitions?  Once they are created how do I format them and what type of formatting should I apply?  Through reading through the forums I guess I should have a swap partition?  does this get utilized automatically once it is created or does it have specific configuration needs?  Just to confirm it should be 2x the amount of ram?

Thanks so much for any help that you guys or gals can give,

cookrn

You can use cfdisk to do the partitioning.  Boot using option 2 to get just a command prompt.  Once you do this, you use the desired formatting command (maybe mke2fs)  for the partitions, except swap (use mkswap).  You really should search the forum, there's a lot of info about this already posted.
