Hi I've been using DSL on my desktop / laptop for almost 2 weeks now.

However I have ONE question..   I have here an old old laptop IBM755CX with 24MB ram and about 6GB win98 installed, external Parallel-Port CDrom drive

My question is...  which DSL do I download ?
I'm 100% sure it will not be the LIVE-CD because there is no boot-to-LPT (cdrom) on the bios.  And i'm 100% it is not the EMBEDDED.zip because I don't want to run DSL on top of win98. The other option that i know of, is to download the 60 floppy disk version then boot off the floppy and install .. but this is super tedious !! Any other method ?

So I want to know which DSL that I can download to install within win98, and then somehow wipe out win98 and eventually have it boot to DSL on the HD.

Any idea how ?  THanks :)     I'm building this for my grandpa

Download dsl-2.0.iso and bootfloppy.img.  You can get them < here. >

To create the boot floppy

In Windows: You need Rawrite. You can get it < here. >  Once you have Rawrite, run the program and tell it the name (and path if RAWRITE.EXE is not in the same directory as bootfloppy.img).

In linux: dd if=bootfloppy.img of=/dev/fd0

Once you have the boot floppy, burn the DSL CD from the CD image.  Insert both the floppy and the CD into you computer and DSL should boot up.

From there you can format to get rid of Win98 and install DSL.  Search the forums for more info.

hi Your fuzzy god :)

Thanks for the reply :)

ok I've got the floppy and DSL LIVE CD ( on parallel-port cdrom drv)

I boot up and entered "DSL LORAM" then I got the following error messages after several pages of text..

Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.
Dropping you to a (very limited) shell.
Press reset button to quit

is this because it doesnt recognize the LIVE CD because its mounted on PARALLEL PORT ? (external cdrom drive parallel port).
