Help Needed: X Settings, Dillo geometry and moreForum: HD Install Topic: Help Needed: X Settings, Dillo geometry and more started by: neoyoda Posted by neoyoda on Dec. 25 2005,06:43
I haven't had much luck looking for these answers, so I'm just going to ask.About my setup: I did a frugal HD install for a Toshiba Libretto 50CT Laptop 800MB HD, 32MB RAM, 640x480 max resolution. 1) The default x settings don't seem to work, so I had to use xsetup. Fine, that got it working. However, now each time it starts it says it is loading the saved config. It doesn't work, saying it can't find fb0. If I then run xsetup.sh and select the proper resolution and color depth, and then type 'startx' it will work... Until I reboot and then I have to go through the process all over again. How can I get it to save those X settings so it boots straight to a GUI? 2) How do I get dillo to stop popping up when the GUI starts, and how do I make it start smaller? It is so large at 640x480 that I can't do anything with it, including move or close it. I have to switch to a different workspace and kill it from there. I know that I have (and will have) other questions, but if someone could explain these two to me I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Posted by larkl on Dec. 25 2005,12:53
You can prevent the Dillo start by adding a # to the line that lists Dillo in the /home/dsl/.xinitrc file. Can't help you with the X settings, I'm sure someone else can.

Okay, duh! I couldn't figure out where it was starting from. Thanks for that. Any idea about making the dillo window start smaller? Posted by mikshaw on Dec. 25 2005,18:18
look in /home/dsl/.dillo/dillorc. At the top of the file there should be a line something like this:geometry=640x550 You can also start dillo with this command: dillo -g 360x400+80+80 The numbers are <width>x<height>{+-}<x_position>{+-}<y_position> + is the distance from left and top - is the distance from right and bottom Posted by neoyoda on Dec. 26 2005,22:34
Thanks, that fixes the dillo issue. All my changes are still getting wiped after a reboot though. Something is not working properly with backup/restore. I'm a little confused as to exactly how the backup/restore system is SUPPOSED to work, so figuring out why it isn't working has been quite a challenge so far. Any ideas where to start looking...
