Hi, I have recently started to use Linux and therefor needs some help in the right direction.

I have a:
PIII 500 MHz
512 ram
Elsa Gladiac 511 (nvidia) graphics card

Frugal install.

Q: When I installed DSL I was able to give boot options like opt=hda2. Now I would also like to add toram, is there a file in which I can add this boot option?

Q: I have no sound. How can I figure out what model I got on the sound card? I think it is a pretty basic card. Where can I configure (interface or file) my soundcard?

Answer depends on what Frugal install? Lilo or Grub?

Also what version of DSL are you running will depend on what enhanced Alsa sound drives you may need. Click on Dillo to see the version number, or on the latest RC look for it on the torsmo meter display in the right-hand-corner of the screen.

I was runing 2.0, but after your post I have now updated to 2.1 RC2 with Frugal install (grub).

hda1  boot  Primary  83  256MB (contains DSL image)
hda2          Primary  83  6000MB
hda3          Primary  82  256MB

I still don't get any sound though, this isn't critical because I will use this installation for a webserver. But it's always nice to be able to turn on a cd from time to time.
At bootup I can see current configuration for my soundcard, Vortex 1, driver=8820.

And how about the boot options, do I need to type them at every startup or can i add them to a file somehow? I want to add monkey to boot later on.

WIth grub, you should be able to edit /mnt/hda1/boot/grub/menu.lst and add the boot options that you want.  Open a terminal window and:
Code Sample
sudo su
mount /dev/hda1
nano /mnt/hda1/boot/grub/menu.lst
