wget as used in the frugal lite cannot take the redirections to the repository to download the iso my system has been wiped by a bad file the only bootable dsl disk i have is a copy of 0.6.4 any ideas i have been unable to rescue system which has now been wiped no access to cd burner......any ideas anyone

What do you mean "redirections"? The script prompts for the iso name and then prompts for the full URL up to but not including the iso. What are you typing for both of these prompts?

for the first dsl-0.7.3.iso

for the second  i cut and paste then delete the dsl bit from the end, i notice the script is prefixed with http now when you follow a normal link it redirects you to http//ftp , could this be the problem

mpie,  I changed the script to not prompt for the URL. It is coded into the script. Please try again. It will only fetch the dsl version in the current directory, i.e., it is currently dsl-.0.7.3.iso

So the answers to the prompt should be something like this:

Enter the partition to hold the iso: hda1
Enter the partition to install into: hda2
Enter the name of the remote iso file: dsl-0.7.3.iso

Looks like you are trying to run the script from within DSL. It is made to work with tomsrtbt. Remember, you inititally did not have DSL on your machine. Read the notes in howto. I ran it this morning from tomsrbt and worked fine. I don't know if the two DSL and Toms' have the same device names.

If you already have DSL installed, use frugal_instal.sh and choose install from Web location.

thank you ke4nt but I meant the one that is part of dsl the normal frugal instal script......But thanks for the response

Please note that script is for use with the very cool tomsrtbt diskette. Please see the how to section for proper use.
It was designed for people with no DSL, no cdrom burner, no cdrom, just a floppy drive and a network card that tomrtbt could detect and a hard drive, or compact flash with ide/adapter. Again, very important to see the how to titled floppy network install Otherwise, it could/can get confusing.

mpie, last time you started with this script. I remebering walking you through it.

re: your request to post the complete frugal_install.sh
It is not a good idea to try to run programs from 0.7.x on 0.6.x.
They are not necessarily backwards compatible, missing functions and such.

thats correct last time you mailed me the script it worked fine.....my set up got wiped by a bad download and needs re-establishing once set will be good to go again , This time I dont need a walkthrough just ,no way to find the script
Posted by roberts on Aug. 03 2004,19:08
mpie, I just emailed you the full frugal_install.sh, you can try, but not sure if it will work on 0.6.x. Lets move this off line and I will try to help.

just go get tomsrtbt real fast and put it on a floppy.

you can do it in DSL even.

< here is the link >

just make sure you have a good quality floppy to do it on (like imation or any other reliable brand) because it bill be formatted to 1.87 mb.

tomsrtbt is truly THE original ultimate pocket linux OS ...

I had the good fortune to have a pcmcia net card handy
that it was happy to work with in an old laptop..

How lucky is THAT !!    :D
