LILO ProblemForum: HD Install Topic: LILO Problem started by: Shades Posted by Shades on Jan. 04 2006,05:24
I finally made my first mydsl remaster cd. Then I decided to make some major changes. I have plans to use my current DSL pc for a Knoppmyth box so I took the 40 gig hard drive out of it that my DSL was on. I decided to use the 40 gig hd in my Win XP Pro box. I got Win XP Pro installed on it. I then took the 20 gig hd that the XP was on and want to put DSL on it. The new remastered cd booted up fine but after I installed LILO on the mbr and rebooted it went right to windows.I tried the install again and rebooted and got the same result. I then tried installing GRUB and that didn't work either. I even tried going back and installing my original DSL 2.0 and installed LILO from it but that didn't work either. I'm at a loss now. So here's what I got as my setup: AMD Athlon XP 1800mhz processor 256mb memory Dual boot Win XP Pro/DSL 40 gig hd hda1 (window XP Pro) 20 gig hd hdb1 (linux swap 512mb) hdb2 (linux) I'm not sure what to try next. Hi Shades, seems we share a similar problem....You might want to checkthe answer to my post too, you never know, do you? Take it easy, Marco Posted by larkl on Jan. 04 2006,12:59
What I had to do to dual boot with Windows was move the windows drive to the slave position. I'm sure that there are other ways to get it to work. Then install DSL on the master drive so grub goes onto this MBR. Then you have to fool Windows into thinking that it's still on the master drive. If you're doing a frugal, you can't edit lilo.conf, so you have to use grub. If you're doing a full install, then I'm not sure. Here are my notes from my frugal install with dual boot:< Dual XP boot > |
