Super Ghetto OldForum: HD Install Topic: Super Ghetto Old started by: Nangisan Posted by Nangisan on Jan. 05 2006,15:14
Hey everyone.I've been playing around with Linux for a couple years. I've been just recently going to school to become a Network Specialist. A friend of mine just bought a new computer and is donating her old one to me. I'm going to get it tomorrow. The thing is she took her sweet time upgrading so from what I've been told this computer is damn old. She dosn't know the specifics but she thinks it has a 512mb HD and a pentium 1 of some sort. Since the computers damn old, I thought I might be able to use DSL. Will I be able to install it? Thanks for you time everyone, Nangisan Posted by mayakovski on Jan. 05 2006,18:34
If it has 32 MB RAM, 300 MB Hard Drive and even a 486 it will be able to run DSL.I have the most recent version of DSL on an old compaq laptop, Pentium 150 MHZ, 49 MB RAM, 3.2 GB Hard Drive and DSL runs great, much faster and more stable than WIn95 ever did. Posted by yib on Jan. 08 2006,10:49
DSL runs on 16mb ram, so if the computer has at least that it'll be ok. You just may need to use some minimalist settings.
