XFree86.bin and frugal install

Please forgive me if this is an ultra-n00b question, but in order to install the XFree86.bin extension the instructions specify that I must copy my XF86Config-4 to the /etc/X11 directory.

How do I do that and make it persistent on a frugal install (I'm running off a CF card so I did a frugal)? Whenever I reboot, the file that I copied into /etc/X11 isn't there anymore.

The easiest thing to do is add the path to your new XF86Config-4 file to the .filetool.lst file and use backup/restore along with your new .xserverrc file.

So, put your new XF86Config-4 file in /etc/X11 and your new .xserverrc in the proper places, test to see if they work properly, add to /home/dsl/.filetool.lst, manually run the backup process from the DSL Control Panel and you should be all set as long as you have the xfree86.dsl loading up at boot time.

I'm running from a Flash card, so will doing that cause a problem the life of the card?

If a CF card is guaranteed 100K writes, so if using backup/restore only writes to the card once/boot-up then it should still last 300 years, yes (assuming I reboot once/day)?

Or does it write to the card more than once per boot-up?
