Frugal install to hdbForum: HD Install Topic: Frugal install to hdb started by: kdre Posted by kdre on Jan. 13 2006,16:56
Hi,i want to install dsl 2.1b to hdb (instead of hda). The situation is, that I have a board with an compact flash socket hard wired as primary slave from which I would like to boot DSL. What do I have to change in DSL to make it frugal installable to hdb? Greetings, Klaus Posted by AwPhuch on Jan. 14 2006,03:33
Do you have a bootloader on the MBR of the cfdisk??If so then just edit it, and add an entry to allow you to boot into the hdb of DSL STF for the correct grub/lilo boot log entry to point it there < http://damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Installing_Grub > <--just edit to reflect hdb1 or whatever as the location of the kernel and initrz file and that "should" work Brian AwPhuch Posted by kdre on Jan. 14 2006,12:39
Thank you for your reply. If it is that easy then I will have no problems installing DSL on hdb. I thought DSL itself needs "hda" to run properly.I will give it a try. Greetings, Klaus Posted by eMeRy on Jan. 14 2006,14:13
Actually the "frugal_install.sh" script asks you to install DSL to hdax.Boot from live-cd, chose 'frugal install' then you can chose any other hard drive (for me hdd1 is the 'dsl' partition and hdd2 for /home and /opt) but don't forget to modify grub or lilo by hand. PS.You need an existing bootloader on your bootdrive. Posted by starscalling on Jan. 17 2006,05:17
