Hello all,I'm trying to install DSL in my hdb, but I had some problems. In the boot screen I used the "install" command and followed the instructions, but I had an error message that I couldn't read, because the system returned to the menu. It was something related to the partitions in the disk. So I verified the partitions using: fdisk -l The last line showed: Disk /dev/hdb doesn't contain a valid partition table. Then I booted the system using a Linux distro used for maintenance purposes (based on Gentoo). Using GParted, I got the following for hdb: Partition Filesystem /dev/hdb1 ext3 /dev/hdb2 extended /dev/hdb5 fat32 /dev/hdb3 ext3 Those partitions were created when I installed Ubuntu in this disk, but it is not installed anymore. Does somebody have an idea of what is happening? Thanks in advance, Perito Posted by msuho on Jan. 20 2006,02:33
Perito-I had this problem with one of my older Maxtor drives- for some some reason, DSL didn't recognize my drive geometry. If you go ahead a recreate the partition table using fdisk /dev/hdb, does your system hang when you try to save the new partition table? Mark Posted by Guest on Jan. 21 2006,21:20
Do you have any sis stuff on your computer? SIS seems to be causing some problems with knoppix based distros.

Yes, I have some SIS devices in my computer (IDE controller and some others).I'll try to install DSL in another computer, using the same HD, before any other action. Thanks for your help. Perito Posted by Guest on Jan. 22 2006,07:30
Knoppix cant find your hd, no matter what you do. I did this, and it says cant find knoppix image or something like that. < http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Loadlin_Install > , did the same to my old laptop, and it works perfectly. Plugged my hd off from the sis computer, plugged it to other computer without any sis stuff, installed dsl without any problems, plugged hd to sis computer, still not working. Feather linux gives same errors as dsl, because both are based on knoppix. Other linux distros works fine (Debian, Slackware etc.) Try vector linux, its also lightweight, based on slackware. |
