Always prompted by 'DSL X setup' panel on boot...Forum: HD Install Topic: Always prompted by 'DSL X setup' panel on boot... started by: TomG Posted by TomG on Jan. 18 2006,18:48
HiAll is in the title ! I installed successfully DSL on HD but each time I boot I have to fill information in 'DSL X setup' (resolution, mouse, keyboard...). Why does it not store this ? How to solve this ? Tx Tom Posted by doobit on Jan. 18 2006,19:36
How did you install DSL on the hard drive? Frugal or regular Debian style install? Did you assign a backup partition?

I did a frugal install and I did not assign a backup partition.Tom Posted by TomG on Jan. 18 2006,21:54
Finally did a "classical" install instead (also due to read only FS) and the boot panel seems ok like this.Tx anyway Posted by mikshaw on Jan. 19 2006,00:01
this is too little too late, but the read-only filesystem in frugal is fixed by adding "frugal" to your boot options, and if you remove "xsetup" from that same boot line you should not be prompted to set your graphics every time.

Hi MikshawThat's interesting to "move forward" my problems (you did not write for peanuts!!!). Where do I find the boot options to try this? is it in menu.lst? if so, can I put frugal anywhere? Thx to help me go ahead Posted by mikshaw on Jan. 19 2006,21:57
yes, for grub it's /cdrom/boot/grub/menu.lst (/cdrom being the partition where the KNOPPIX file is installed). If you have any dsl-specific boot options already it should say something like "dsl option1 option2 ...". If you have no "dsl" in there, it must be added to that line, with your options added after "dsl" Posted by winux on Jan. 19 2006,22:45
Thx MikshawActually I've got in menu.lst: title DSL (is it the DSL you're talking about?) kernel /boot/linux24 root=/dev/hda2 quiet vga=normal noacpi noapm nodma noscsi frugal initrd /boot/minirt24.gz Is it fine? If you have some extra time!! ... could you please take a look at my "situation" on my other pending post. That would help me finalizing my installation!! Anyway I've learnt a lot on this forum, very good one, Thx Bye Posted by mikshaw on Jan. 20 2006,02:19
Line1: title DSLLine2: kernel /boot/linux24 root=/dev/hda2 dsl quiet vga=normal noacpi noapm nodma noscsi frugal Line3: initrd /boot/minirt24.gz I'm not sure what "quiet" is for, so for all i know it may need to be in front of "dsl", like the "fb*" options do. Posted by peter on Feb. 18 2006,10:31
