HI, I'm obviously new to the world of DSL. I am trying to load DSL from a floppy and a CD to my craptastic Compaq deskpro with a 386. The boot disk seems to work somewhat, but it stops loading with the message "Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 1:03". it also says that it is "looking for DSL image in DSL image in /dev/sdg5". I suspect that the solution has something to do with me being a dumbass. can anyone help???

thanks!

VC

You might try the CD in a different PC to be sure that you got it burned correctly.

You have 16MB of RAM in that 386?

If not, consider alternatives like "Basic Linux" instead of DSL.

Keymaster...let me put it to ya like this!

Yeesh..that is one olda hella hunka junka bud!

I doubt it would run well in anything but runlevel 2 man..but it might work..does that 386 have a mathcoprocessor off chip?  If not then it wont work at all as DSL kernel doesnt have math-coprocessor emulation built into it (why not ill never know)
