What does, "Boot from within a host operating system (that's right, it can run *inside* Windows)" mean?I thought it means I can install DSL from within a running Windows OS. But I don't know how. So I searched the forums as described in the following text "Learn to love the search function. If this is your first time using DSL, I can promise you that someone else has had your problem, posted about it and had it answered. Just click the search button, type in what you want so search for, select "All Forums" and "Since the Beginning". Hit the search button at the bottom and get your results in a few seconds. You can also use the Search function here in DSL Wiki to search the documentation." I searched "host operating system". I searched "Boot from within a host operating system (that's right, it can run *inside* Windows)". I searched "windows". If I can run windows and also run DSL inside a running Windows OS would you please tell me how? Thank you. Posted by mikshaw on Feb. 01 2006,20:05
The dsl-embedded zip file contains the linux system and the qemu program. Qemu is an emulator which runs DSL on virtual hardware, similar to the way VMware does.

How will it run inside winxp?I have currently a winxp install that I don't have time to tweak due to too many ongoing projects in school. My disk is swapped, my registry is bloathed and it runs so slow. I have 512mb ram. Pentium laptop mobile(?) with 1.7 cpu. Will this be enough to run dsl inside windowsxp? \and will it give me speed? I tried the dsl mother knoppix as a live cd but it was ohh my god so slow. Can not upgrade hw right now due to absent of money. Need a fix. Will dsl give me fast running machine if I run dsl embedded inside winxp? For the next week or so all I need is actually a browser and a notepad/writer. Will dsl do the trick for me. Pls hlp I am in so much pain here. Posted by larkl on Feb. 01 2006,22:57
I don't think running embedded is going to help much. Knoppix is kind of bloated, you should try a DSL live CD and run in the TORAM mode. WIth 512M of RAM, you'll be amazed.

True.If your XP system is already slow, you'll make it worse by running another operating system on top of it. |
