what is the procedure to install DSL in order to use a browser, a mail client and to be able to write and print in french ?
Thanks a lot for your guidance
I have bought the DSL live CD 2.1b at Ikarios.com

you should be able to boot with option lang=fr directly from the CD.  If you decide that you want to install, you can do a hard drive install or a frugal install.  You can refer to the Wiki or do a search to get more details.

You can boot with
Code Sample
DSL 2
from the liveCD to get to text mode without the desktop.  cfdisk will run from here to do the partitioning.  You could use other third-party partitioning software, you might try < AEFDisk >, it works OK.
