I HD installed dsl 2.2 onto a compaq presario 7170 w/39 Mb RAM, pentium 75-200 at 100mhz. The live mode did see floppy and cd but the install does not. the mounting tool shows only hda and hdb, and XXMS ? does not eelpven try to play a music cd.

What code can I put into which file so that the Mounting Tool can do it's job?  This machine is destined for someone with limited computer skill(sort of like me) so these basic functions must work smoothly or it is a no go for DSL.

Help is much apprieciated, if I can solve this then I will be able to put a few more old low ram machines back into use.

Thanks

I am new also but installed dsl to hd..to play a music cd open the xmms..open playlist..to right choose new..to left choose dir..a dialog will pop up..click cdrom and then ok..you should have the playlist..click play...to view the content of a floppy open the file manager..elfmn or what ever it is called...click floppy..rightclick and choose mount..the content should appear in the same panel...hope this is something useful..just getting my bearings aswell...

What is the mounting tool that you're referring to?  Is this Slit (the tool that shows CPU usage, mem usage, and has a mounting utility)? What does your /etc/fstab file contain (do cat /etc/fstab from Xterminal)?
