Boot problems LIVE CDForum: HD Install Topic: Boot problems LIVE CD started by: NewDude Posted by NewDude on Feb. 20 2006,03:37
Hey,First off, I did a search for this problem and has far as I could tell, no one else has ever had it. I already have DSL 2.2B running on a P166mhz, it runs great. I am now trying to test it out on my PIII 667MHZ, 512MB, 40GB HD. Just want to run the live cd make sure it does ok before I move on to the HD install. When I try to boot to the LIVE CD version 2.2B or 2.1 I get this. hda:hda1 hdb:<3>hdb: lost interrupt hdb:lost interrupt hdb:lost interrupt hdb:lost interrupt hdb:lost interrupt hdb:lost interrupt hdb:lost interrupt hdb:lost interrupt hdb:lost interrupt keeps going and going. I didn't find this out until I pressed F2 and did the expert install. That is were it is hanging up. I also tried a linux failsafe install, and it hung up in that same place. The system runs great under evil Win2K. I haven't had any problem, but since I have became a fan of DSL, I want DSL on this system. Also, I tried installing UBUNTU 5.10 on it to, and it had problems detecting stuff. Again, it is a PIII 667mhz, 512mb, 40GB HD, it has a CD-R and and 56x CD-ROM, and a zip drive (100mb). All 4 devices are on the IDE primary and secondard controllers. I am having a few problems with the zip drive, it acts weird. Been thinking about pulling it out. Any suggestions? if u have any old hard drives around try takeing out the old one and istalling the new one. Why when your booting from the live cd the harddrive would even be an issue i dont know. But a new hardrive my help.

Thanks darkerror05,I do have another HD I can try. I did pull out that ZIP drive that was the slave on 'primary IDE control' that the HD is on. It would blink all the time and act weird. I don't know if that was causing the problem or not. I am getting ready to try to boot to the live cd again. If it falls, I am going to try your idea. The HD I have in this one that DSL and Ubuntu doesn't like is a Maxtor 40GB. I think I have a 60GB or 80GB around here I can try. Soon as my kids quit bugging me, I will test it out if the LIVE CD fails again. Posted by NewDude on Feb. 21 2006,00:25
GREAT NEWS!!!It was the Zip drive. The Zip drive was causing all the problems. Since I pulled it out, my system is booting fine to the CD. This is amazing... it is lighting fast... this PIII 667mhz might need to be my web server... Holly SH#% it is fast!!!! Posted by darkerror05 on Feb. 21 2006,03:41
