Hi guys. I'm new here, so don't kill me. ^_^anyways, i downloaded DSL embedded, and put it on a CD. I want to install it to my hard drive though, but i need to make a partion. I created and messed with partions using my WinXP recovery disk, but i don't have that anymore. I am running good (yeah right) ol' Windows 98 (FIRST EDITION) and i tried to type diskpart in command line, but it won't work. Can someone tell me how to create and delete partions with WIN98 command line? Thanks in advance. Posted by jamiesk on Mar. 01 2006,22:49

Hmm... that doesn't work, but i can write an WIndows98 system recovery floppy disk, but i dont have a floppy disk.... that system recovery can create and delete partions too. off to walmart.

Ugh.. *slaps self* I should've downloaded the .iso..... If i just download the ISO, and burn it to a cd, and boot from the CD, can i install or run it?

Yes..if you download the iso and burn to cd and your machine can boot from cd then just drop it in and boot and it will run the operating systen in ram..if you want to you can run from hd or do a frugal install or install to hd..if you can not boot from cd download the boot.img and rawrite to a floppy and use it to boot the cd..if you want to install to hd you will need a linux partition..I think win98 will allow you to remove a fat partition but you will need to use linux fdisk to create a linux partition..if that helps..I am a newbie myself.

You need:a linux partition for the compressed image and grub a linux partition for personal files a linux swap partition for virtual memory. make sure you tell fdisk to write them to disk. Use mke2fs on the first two and mkswap on the swap. run the cd with th toram option. Just find the grub hardrive install option in the menu and bobs your uncle. if you download parted.dsl you can resize partitions. Posted by kruser619 on Mar. 02 2006,22:21

I really couldn't get parted.dsl to work, maybe im just not doing it right, but for people who have the same problem, there is an iso download here ( < http://visopsys.org/partlogic/index.html > ) freeware that will allow you to create/delete/move partions from a burned CD, without a single OS running. It worked great for me, and is pretty easy to use.
