i have there 4 partitions in fat32.
1st partition is bootable, and contains windows
2nd is empty and i would like to se DSL there
3rd is empty too
and 4th is for windows files, like documents and downloads

whan i'm starting DSL CD, i run cfdisk and see partitions hda1,hda5,hda6,hda7
what about hda2,3 and 4???
i believe, i need to install DSL into hda5? which is second partition?
oh and not bootable partitions are logical partitions.

hda 1-4 are the names automatically given to primary partitions. hda5 and higher are logical partitions. Linux doesn't care if it's primary or logical.

And if you made the partitions using windows, remember that windows always makes 1 primary partition and the rest are logical partitions.

Not so when you make the partitions with linux. You can make up to 4 primary partitions and as many logigal partitions as you like...
