Swap unused ??Forum: HD Install Topic: Swap unused ?? started by: Seijuuro Posted by Seijuuro on Mar. 05 2006,13:49
HelloI wich to understand why my swap space is always unused (0%) with my DSL HD install ? I have something other to configure ? thanx Posted by mikshaw on Mar. 05 2006,14:45
How much memory do you have? With a decent amount (512mb, for example) your swap will probably not be touched until you do something really heavy.

Yes but I only have 64, that's why it's strange

oh...strange. Maybe 0% means 0% free

No, because if I do nothing it's 0% and if I do multiple tasks it's 0%and when I boot the pc it say "swap activated" Posted by mikshaw on Mar. 05 2006,15:01
My guess, then, would be that your tasks aren't using much ram? DSL itself is very light, and if you are using light apps you could do quite a bit with that 64mb.Another possibility is maybe the application you're using to monitor is not working properly. Do you see anything about swap if you use the "free" command? Posted by Seijuuro on Mar. 05 2006,15:09
wawSwap : total: 0, Used: 0, free: 0 ... Posted by pr0f3550r on Mar. 05 2006,15:36
Well, run Firefox, Opera, XXMS altogether and see if you still have unused swap!

If free is telling you that there is a total of 0 swap, then i suppose it's not being used. You might need the command "sudo swapon" to enable it.
