HDD Install within WindowsForum: HD Install Topic: HDD Install within Windows started by: pdt1630 Posted by pdt1630 on Mar. 10 2006,02:05
I've been reading the posts and trying to figure out a way to:1) Install DSL onto a qemu virtual drive within Windoz. 2) Move everything from Ramdisk or disable it Using qemu-img, I've created a "drive" and used the dsl-hdinstall script to at least initiate all the file transfers... which it does. On quick inspection everything looks right. Booting on the other hand is not working at all. Kernel will boot to the point of where it should load the KNOBBIX part of the startup and then tanks, complaining of no DSL image... blah blah. The reason I'm doing the install this way is because I'm a consultant who has the corporate laptops and everytime I get caught moding the layout of them I get a repremand. I like the qemu DSL combo for a fully supported/pretty complete linux distro. I just need to figure out so that it runs completely natively in windows with VMware or some of the other VMs (which are memory hogs). Any hints or next steps are appreciated. Sorry to ask you this, do you have VMware ?if you do, i suggest you use VMware rather than Qemu for Windows environment. for qemu i can't help, but VMware surely can. Posted by 300c_pilot on Mar. 20 2006,15:10
I am not up on the qemu, so maybe someone else will jump in to help you.I have been in the same boat, but I have not been able to add software to the computer, so I just boot from a cd & use a thumb drive for storage. This way there is no tracks when I am done. Smooth flights...:) |
