Hello,I have made a frugal installation of DSL into a partition in my HD. Now I want to edit the grub menu.lst, but I don`t know how. I mean, it`s a only read file. Is there somethig I am missing? Thanksssssssssss. Posted by Onyarian on Mar. 14 2006,08:28
yes, you have to edit it as root.Right click on the icon of Emelfm, select Emelfm as root. search the menu.lst and you can edit it. Posted by Vicks on Mar. 14 2006,21:16
It is still a Read Only file. I can't edit the file.

You don't edit the menu.lst that's in the filesystem, you edit the one that's in the /boot/grub directory on the root of the installed partition. So it would be located somewhere like /mnt/hda1/boot/grub/menu.lst.

That's it. You're sooo right. I did not realize it. Thanks a lot.One thing to take into account: I have my DSL CD Image stoted in my hda partition. This is mounted after boot a up as /cdrom, so this is where I found my menu.lst to edit. Posted by lethaldose on April 11 2006,16:28
Hi.. i have quite the same problem.. i've done a frugal hd install, i'm using lilo as bootloader and i need to edit lilo.conf to add the "nodhcp" commant to the append line... i've succesfully edited the file /cdrom/boot/lilo.conf, but when i try to confirm it withlilo -C /cdrom/boot/lilo.conf it replies Fatal: creat /boot/map~: Read-only file system perhaps i should add some more parameters to the lilo command above? sorry i understand it maybe a n00b question.. but.. in fact i am a linux n00b Posted by lethaldose on April 12 2006,18:36
