Hello!

I'm trying to install DSL on a Libretto 50CT (32Mb RAM, 6Gb HDD, no CDROM, PCMCIA floppy, Win98 running, PCMCIA network card), without taking the HDD out of the machine if possible.

I've followed the instructions in the Wiki for a loadlin install, and initially loadlin seems to work - the kernel is loaded and linux starts.  However, there is then a series of messages about insmod failing to load modules (efs is one of them - the screen has scrolled up before I can read the others!).

I then still get the dialogues to set up X, but X fails to start (blank screen).

ctrl-alt-F1 brings me back to a console saying 'XIO: fatal IO error 104 (connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining".

The KNOPPIX and isolinux directories are taken from DSL2.2b.iso.

Any suggestions, anyone?

I seem to remember that the 104 error is related to dos drivers, tsr's etc. - you need a clean dos boot (without drivers etc.) for Xvesa to work. I think you can do this by pressing some key at boot (I don't remember but it may be F5, F8 or similar).

You may be able to look at some of the other messages with this command:
dmesg | more
